Japanese Rice Paper Table Lamp

The Japanese Rice Paper Table Lamp from Dune & Ash is a ribbed paper shade on three fine wire legs, in the Akari tradition. The whole shade lights up rather than pointing light somewhere, which is why a single one changes the feel of a room more than its size suggests.

The paper is stretched over a ribbed frame, so the surface holds its shape and the ribs show as soft horizontal lines when it is lit. Paper diffuses far more gently than glass or fabric, giving a warm even glow with no hotspot and no visible bulb from any angle. The tripod legs lift the shade clear of the surface so light spills underneath as well, and the whole thing weighs almost nothing, so it moves between rooms easily.

It plugs into a standard socket. Dust the paper with a dry brush or a soft cloth rather than anything damp, since paper marks permanently once it is wet. Keep it away from curtains and let the bulb cool before handling.

Plug type. This lamp is supplied with an Australian plug. If you are ordering from outside Australia you will need a plug adapter, and you should check the fitting suits your local supply before use.
