Maeve Solid Oak Wall Rack

The Maeve Solid Oak Wall Rack from Dune & Ash is a plain timber rail with pegs, made to take coats, bags, hats, dog leads and whatever else piles up by a door. It is solid oak rather than a veneer, so it takes the weight of a wet winter coat without the fixing pulling through.

The grain runs through the whole piece, which means it can be sanded and re-oiled years from now rather than being thrown out when the finish wears. Pegs are turned from the same timber and set into the rail rather than screwed onto the face, so they cannot loosen and rotate under load. The rail is drilled for wall fixings with the holes set at standard stud spacing, and the back is flat so it sits tight to a wall rather than rocking. The profile is deliberately shallow so it does not catch a shoulder in a narrow hallway.

Fix it into studs or with proper wall anchors rather than into plasterboard alone, since a loaded coat rack pulls harder than people expect. Wipe it with a dry or barely damp cloth and re-oil the timber every year or two to keep the colour even. It works equally well in a bedroom, a bathroom for towels, or a kitchen for utensils.
