Icar Scandinavian LED Wall Lamp

The Icar Scandinavian LED Wall Lamp from Dune & Ash mounts a small glowing sphere against an upright timber backplate, so the fitting reads as a piece of wood on the wall with a light in front of it rather than as a light fixture.

The timber is what does the work. It warms the colour of the light bouncing off it and it breaks up the flat plane of a painted wall, which is why this shape keeps turning up in Scandinavian interiors. The backplate is deliberately narrow and tall so it suits the gap beside a bed or along a hallway where a wide fitting would crowd. The globe is opal, so the light is soft and there is no bright point to catch your eye from the pillow. Two timber finishes are available.

It is hard wired, so it is worth handing to an electrician unless there is already a point on that wall. Wipe the timber with a dry cloth rather than a damp one, and switch off at the wall before cleaning.
