Lumibook Foldable Rechargeable Lamp

The Lumibook Foldable Rechargeable Lamp from Dune & Ash looks like a small hardback on a shelf until it is opened, at which point the pages fan out and light up. It closes flat and goes back to looking like a book, which is the whole trick.

The pages are cut from a translucent material and lit from the spine, so the light comes through the whole fan rather than from a visible bulb. Open it a crack for a night light, swing it right round to a full circle for a soft lamp that lights a table from all sides. The covers are timber effect and hold their position wherever you leave them. It is low output and warm, which makes it usable beside a bed or in a child's room. Six size and finish combinations are available.

It charges over USB and runs on its own battery, so it needs no socket and travels easily. Wipe the covers with a dry cloth, fold it shut for storage rather than leaving it open, and charge it before the battery runs flat rather than after.
